Technical Writer Administrative/Professional Our client, based in Providence, RI, is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support their IT teams by developing, maintaining, and enhancing clear, accurate, and accessible technical documentation. This role focuses on creating and managing documentation for operational support, knowledge management, and IT support functions within data center, network, and helpdesk environments. Key Responsibilities Produces, updates, and improves IT documentation, including knowledge base articles, technical procedures, runbooks, quick reference guides, and SOPs. Collaborates with subject matter experts, technical teams, and service owners to gather, validate, and translate complex technical information into user-friendly content. Reviews, edits, and updates existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness aligned with current systems and operational environments. Organizes technical content into logical, searchable structures to facilitate knowledge sharing, issue resolution, onboarding, and operational continuity. Develops and enforces documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, and quality control practices to ensure consistency across all IT documentation. Ensures documentation is audience-appropriate, accessible, easy to navigate, and written in a consistent format for both technical and non-technical users. Supports documentation lifecycle management, including version control, periodic reviews, approvals, and retirement of outdated materials. Required Qualifications Proven senior-level experience as a technical writer supporting IT operations, infrastructure, service management, helpdesk, data center, or networking environments. Ability to understand technical processes and translate them into clear, concise documentation for varied audiences. Experience working with documentation platforms, knowledge management systems, collaboration tools, and version-control or review workflows. Familiarity with IT service management concepts, ticketing systems, operational support processes, and documentation governance. Strong interviewing, listening, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Availability for scheduled meetings with SMEs and IT teams, with remote work flexibility. Work experience in higher education is a plus. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting IT in higher education environments.
