Technical Writer (Tax Law)

Duties The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. Independently, or as a team member, researches and revises existing material for use by the selected function(s). Researches subject matter laws, agency policies, program procedures, and other source documents to draft materials suitable for the intended audiences. Edits material presented by technical analysts and subject matter specialists. Edits materials to ensure grammatical correctness, appropriate tone, consistency in style and format, and conformance with Service polices and practices. Accepts or rejects material considering the suitability of expression and effects for the purpose intended. Creates, evaluates, and/or rewrites documents to improve written presentation in terms of logical development of ideas and concepts, the reading and knowledge level of the intended audience, the method of expression, and the overall quality of writing. Attends planning meetings and provides information to others on procedures and format. Consults with analysts to plan and advise on content, format, and Service policy before final publication. Observes and participates in activities, processes, demonstrations, and/or experiments to develop knowledge and skills needed to create communication materials.
