MEMORANDUM || TEMP FIRE APPARATUS ENGINEER POSITION AT SBFPD
The Stinson Beach Fire Protection District is a combination paid/volunteer fire district providing services in fire protection, emergency medical care, specialty rescue, disaster response, community education, and fire prevention. District personnel are an integral part of the local community. Applicants should be comfortable in rural, small-town settings with an emphasis on close community engagement. The District plans to staff a three month temporary position for a
Fire Apparatus Engineer to supplement the FT Chief, three FT Captains, two FT Engineers and local volunteer firefighters and EMTs. Information about the District can be found at the district website: www.stinsonbeachfire.org.
DUTIES:
Supervise volunteer firefighters on incidents
Perform fire apparatus engineer and firefighting duties
Perform fire prevention activities and public education
Assist in volunteer trainings and support the volunteer firefighting program
Provide BLS emergency medical care
Drive and operate fire apparatus and related equipment
Maintain fire station, grounds and related equipment
Perform and document daily vehicle checks
Perform related additional work as required
ABILITY TO:
Demonstrate effective written and oral communications
Maintain proficiency in a variety of internet-hosted application- based fire service programs
Maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, and the public
Perform duties in a professional and respectful manner
Demonstrate effective incident management and control
Perform physically demanding duties
Maintain positive public image
COMPENSATION
The temporary Fire Apparatus Engineer will be compensated at an hourly rate of $25.81 in addition to a bi-weekly FSLA payment of $78.05. This is an at-will employment position.
BENEFITS
The temporary Fire Apparatus Engineer will be provided with unemployment and workers compensation benefits as is standard, and sick time will continue to be accrued at the rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked. For the length of the full time employment (3 months) vacation time will be accrued at the rate of 6.46 hours per pay period.
SCHEDULE
The work schedule will consist of 112 hours per two-week pay period, following the alternating
Peri Schedule:
Starting Wednesday at 1600 to Friday at 1700, and then again from the subsequent Friday at
1700 to Monday at 0800. Regular overtime for this position is time worked beyond the standard duty cycle hours above. For the purposes of computing regular overtime, vacation and sick time shall be considered time worked.
Overtime for Fair Labor Standards ACT (FLSA) purposes is time worked by an FAE beyond one hundred and six (106) hours in a fourteen (14) day work period and is the time frame in which hours worked will be counted for the purpose of computing overtime under FLSA regulations.
This position is not eligible for compensatory time off (comp time).
This position is eligible for shift trades.
