This is a temporary role that we expect to last for up to five months. The position will be full-time, 40 hours per week. The current work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 7:30am to 5:30pm. We are looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Temporary Accounting Specialist to support the Finance Department. This temporary position focuses primarily on accounts payable processing while also providing general accounting, clerical, and customer service support. Working under the supervision of the Finance Director, the Temporary Accounting Specialist plays an important role in ensuring accurate, timely payments and maintaining financial records in compliance with City policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities Process accounts payable, including invoices, statements, purchase orders, and bills from City departments. Prepare monthly payments and checks for City Council approval and Mayor’s signature. Maintain vendor records and assist with ACH payments and journal entries. Support general account reconciliation and records maintenance. Provide courteous and professional customer service to vendors, staff, and the public. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate and accuracy in all work performed. Perform all duties in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED required; college or advanced coursework in accounting, math, or business preferred. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in accounts payable or bookkeeping; experience with cash receipting, accounts receivable, or municipal finance preferred. Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, and excellent communication skills. License: Valid driver’s license required. This position works in a public office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, operate a computer, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Confidentiality and accuracy are essential in this role. Compensation The hourly wage for this position will be $22.68 to $24.00 depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits, retirement account, paid time off, or paid holidays due to the temporary status.
