The City of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Department seeks to hire a Temporary Day Camp Manager for the 2024 summer season Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, this position is responsible for the management of summer day camp operations. The City of Maple Valley operates two camps and will be hiring two camp Managers:
- Camp Wild: Eight (8) one-week camps for children aged 6-11 years old
- Wilderness Adventure Camp: Four (4) one-week camps for children 12-15 years old
Among other job responsibilities, this position will:
- Be responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of summer day camp activities, field trips, special events while maintaining a safe, fun, and enriching environment for all participants and staff.
- Work with the Recreation Coordinators and the Recreation Manager on the development and coordination of recreational programs which promote inclusion, equity, and safety for all participants.
- Act in a leadership role over an assigned program (site supervisor). Supervise volunteers, staff, and program participants to meet the needs of the activity, event, or program. Take an active role in mentoring and developing all staff and volunteers to meet high standards for program excellence.
- Assist in the supervision of Summer Camp Leaders and Summer Camp Senior Leaders, including application reviews, interviews, hiring paperwork, training, daily supervision, and maintenance of work schedules. Assists in promoting and marketing recreation activities in the community with promotional and advertising materials such as flyers, brochures, and other media resources.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:

- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, blood borne pathogens, and AED (or obtain prior to the start of camp).
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelors degree in recreation, early childhood education, psychology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience with planning, coordination, and implementation of programs for elementary or middle school aged youth
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Knowledge and skill in designing and leading recreation activities including classes, camps, and special events. Proficient in providing emergency first aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines.

The Day Camp Manager is a seasonal position, eligible to work up to 5 months and may work an irregular schedule that includes some evenings and weekends as dictated by City programs and special events This position is FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime compensation. $23.50 - $27.49 per hour, DOE.
