Job Summary

As a Mechanical Test Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and executing test programs from start to finish. You will be expected to quote incoming RFQs, develop test plans, lead technician teams in executing on those test plans, synthesize and review reports, and generally meet customer needs as they arise without compromising integrity or professionalism. This position may be required to assist in test completion or field service support on an infrequent basis (<10% quarterly travel).

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviewing customer Request for Quotations (RFQ) to estimate & schedule test programs.
  • Direct interfacing with customers.
  • Evaluating test progress to recommend changes in scope or schedule as necessary.
  • Performing calculations in various mathematical disciplines for test reports.
  • Learning various testing procedures and standards. (ISO, SAE, FMVSS, ASTM, MIL-STD).
  • Preparing drawings and specifications relating to fixture design using Auto Cad applications. (Primarily SolidWorks)
  • Designing test fixtures based on test requirements.
  • Drafting final test reports to be delivered to customers or end users.
  • Ability to handle numerous projects simultaneously and meet schedule deadlines.

Qualifications & Competency Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering field with relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of general quality programs and an aptitude for learning ISO 17025 Quality Accreditation Programs.
  • Knowledge of Structural Dynamics including load, fatigue, and failure analysis.
  • Proficient in communicating effectively with strong verbal and grammatical skills.
  • Must be able to prepare thorough and accurate reports.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to translate test requirements and customer expectations into robust test plans.
  • The ability to lead laboratory technicians through test plans and guide them during specific test programs.
  • Available to work a primarily daylight shift but willing to work overtime when customer needs or management require it.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, move, or transport objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work location; possessing a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is most suitable.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass drug screening and background checks.

Additional Competencies

  • Experience with Powertrain components including transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, and other gearbox applications.
  • Working knowledge of static and dynamic load applications.
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with digital control systems and digital data collection systems. The ability to program or learn to program National Instruments systems would be ideal.
