Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a sustainable presence in space, while also driving a positive impact here on Earth. We are seeking a Test Engineer to help us create the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment. As a Test Engineer you will play a crucial role in the testing and evaluation of vehicle systems at Lunar Outpost and specialized test facilities like those at Johnson Space Center, both with and without crew involvement, ensuring the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) is safe, reliable, and mission-ready for lunar exploration. You will be focused on the LTV, the cutting edge crewed and autonomous mobility platform that will drive NASA astronauts, carry payloads, and build key infrastructure on the lunar surface. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross‑functional teams to test systems that optimize human performance in spaceflight environments. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and carry out subsystem, vehicle-level, and multi‑system level tests Test Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) systems, such as power, autonomy, communications, navigation, and environmental controls Evaluate vehicle performance in simulated lunar terrain and operational scenarios Interface with Human Factors, Crew Training, and other teams to support crew testing and training Support crew safety through emergency procedure and rescue testing Analyze test data and recommend procedure and design improvements Develop and use the LTV Ground Test Unit (GTU) to support design validation and inform mission architecture Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and astronauts to refine vehicle design and test procedures Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field 3+ years of experience in test or systems engineering Hands‑on testing experience in lab or field environments Team‑oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent organization, time management skills, and attention to detail Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively U.S. Persons Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in a related discipline NASA or spaceflight program experience Familiarity with terrain mobility systems or EVA operations Experience with data acquisition, test automation, or simulation tools Knowledge of spacecraft systems and operations and NASA training certification processes and standards Any offer of employment for this position is conditional upon Lunar Outpost receiving the LTVS Phase II contract from NASA. If the contract is not awarded to Lunar Outpost, this offer will be considered null and void, without further obligation to Lunar Outpost. Lunar Outpost is an equal opportunity employer.
