Hiring: Software / Firmware Test Automation EngineerLocation: LisburnContract: 12 month - inside IR35.A forward-thinking engineering organisation driving the green energy transition is looking for an experienced Firmware Test & Automation Engineer to join their R&D team.This role sits within an Agile Scrum environment, working closely with firmware developers and product teams to design and execute both manual and automated testing solutions across a range of advanced technologies.What you’ll be doing:• Designing and executing test strategies for firmware products• Building and maintaining automation frameworks (Python, Robot Framework or similar)• Improving test efficiency, coverage, and reliability through automation• Reviewing requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria• Creating detailed test plans, cases, and documentation• Running smoke and regression testing (manual and automated)• Debugging, analysing results, and supporting defect resolution• Collaborating closely with development teams in a fast-paced environmentWhat we’re looking for:• Strong experience in firmware testing and automation• Proven track record building automation frameworks• Hands-on with Python and test automation tools• Experience testing microservices in Docker environments• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins)• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills• Experience with tools like Selenium, GitHub, and Jira is beneficialNice to have:• Background in embedded systems• Linux experience• Exposure to electronics testing tools (oscilloscopes, signal generators)• Interest in emerging testing tools and methodologies• Experience mentoring or supporting team membersThis is a unique opportunity to work across cutting-edge technologies, from hardware-level measurement systems through to cloud-based industrial solutions.
