Join us now to do purposeful work with our diverse and respectful team.Job Title: Therapeutic Recreation AssistantJob SummaryProvides group and one-to-one therapeutic recreation to all residents including those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia-related disorders.Essential Job Functions* Facilitates the therapeutic recreation programs by assisting residents during group activities, following the activity schedule, and providing assistance with transportation for residents during recreation activities* Maintains documentation in a neat and legible manner and meets established department deadlines for recording documentation* Deals appropriately with the special needs of residents and their families* Plans, organizes, and assists residents in field trips on a monthly basisJob RequirementsEducation* High School Diploma; Associate's Degree preferredExperience* Minimum of one year experience presenting activities to geriatric population desirableLicenses/Certifications* CPR Certification preferredAbilities Required* Friendly, outgoing, positive personality;* Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of the work group, residents, families, and volunteers;* Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly* Computer knowledge preferred* Knowledge of documentation desirableFunctional DemandsEnvironment Work Conditions* Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilationInfectious Material Exposure* Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids/tissuesOrganizational Expectations* Ensures that resident's/patient's rights are adhered to* Demonstrates professionalism and accountability* Demonstrates a caring attitude consistent with Miami Jewish EmpathicareSM toward MJH residents, patients, family members, employees, and other facility guests* Demonstrates excellent communication skills* Ensures confidentiality and security of patients' medical information* Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication* Able to speak, read and write English* Able to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job* Adheres to the organization's Mission, Vision and Values* Participates in departmental activities, meetings and in-services and follows established guidelines* Maintains a safe working environmentThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
