Remedy is excited to partner with a well-known manufacturer in the Finger Lakes Region as they seek to fill a Tool Room / Machinist.

This person will be responsible for operating various machines to produce precision tooling parts. Produces small batches of custom tooling. Ensure products meet precise specifications.

Job Title: Tool Room / Machinist 
Pay: $24.00-30.00/hour **Varies by skill level**
Shift: 1st shift
There are many roles in both Canandaigua and Clifton Springs, NY.

Essential functions for this Tool Room / Machinist will include:
Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce parts.

  • Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
  • Calculate where to cut or bore.
  • Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
  • Determine how fast or slow workpiece is fed into machine.
  • Determine how much material to remove.
  • Select tools and materials for the job.
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
  • Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made.
  • Position workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
  • Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
  • Regulate temperature of workpiece.
  • Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.
  • Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
  • Monitor the accuracy of cuts.
  • Replace dull cutting tools.
  • Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
  • Determine how automated equipment will cut a part.
  • Determine cutting path.
  • Compile path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool.
  • Use manual and computer-controlled machinery


We're looking for a Tool Room / Machinist with the following background profile:
 

  • Strong blueprint reading and comprehension.  Understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 is a significant plus.
  • Skilled in CNC setup and operation functions.  Knowledge of programming is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling selection and use, including spindle tooling and cutting tools.
  • Expert in common inspection and gaging techniques, including micrometers, bore gages, height gages, indicators, thread gaging, profilometers, and optical comparators.  Working knowledge of CMMs, vision systems and other metrology equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to meet productivity and quality standards while working with a diverse range of components, materials, and equipment.
  • Basic computer and software skills.  Strengths in CAD/CAM, SPC, ERP, inventory, or typical office applications is a plus.


Minimum experience:

  • Two years machining experience including familiarity with manual and CNC production equipment.
  • Two years setup and production experience on CNC equipment.
  • Diploma or degree in related technical field is a plus.
  • Leadership experience is a plus.
