Manager Expansion/Transmission PlanningLocation: Moncks Corner, SCOnsite 4 days per week, remote 1 day per weekInsight Global is hiring a Manager of Expansion Planning to join a major utility provider focused on delivering electrical utilities across the state of South Carolina. This role involves designing, planning, and overseeing System Expansion Plans and Transmission Planning Assessments. If you have an Electrical Engineering background in the utility industry and are looking to take on a role leading a small team to advance the Transmission Planning capabilities in the utility space, then this role will be an exciting opportunity!Responsibilities include:Manage and oversee transmission planning assessments and system expansion plans development by applying knowledge of transmission system modeling and analysis, planning criteria, NERC compliance, policy and regulation.Provides expertise and/or leads in the effort of solving more complex transmission planning analysis.Provides recommendations on the location and timing of transmission projects to balance economic solutions and system benefits to support future load growth and generation resource needs.Leads or provides guidance in the assessment of regional and inter-regional transmission planning needs.Leads the Expansion Planning unit in achieving departmental objectives and responsible for formal supervision of the unit personnel.Manages and oversees the performance of transmission assessments and identification of optimal transmission solutions in Expansion Planning unit to ensure the economical and timely expansion of the bulk electric system to meet current and future customer needs.Provides expertise and guidance to unit personnel in solving more complex and challenging transmission issues to support large load demand, fast evolving generation technology and change in resource mix.Reviews and approves study results while ensuring compliance with NERC Reliability standards and following planning criteria and guidelines. Interprets study results, alternatives and proposes transmission projects for capital construction.Provides a key role in determining the needs and timing of the transmission improvement projects and in developing the ten-year capital construction budget.Reviews and approves project scoping documents to initiate work on recommended system improvements. Lead in the scope discussion with Design Engineering, Project Management, System Protection & Control, Operations Planning and other business units as necessary to determine project feasibility and define project scope.Reviews and approves written reports such as compliance and regulatory filings, annual ten-year planning assessment, various transmission study reports and executive summaries. Reviews and approves study results and recommendations for presentation to internal and external stakeholders. This may include executive management, customers, and regulatory agencies.Leads transmission planning activities and discussions between neighboring systems and regional entities. Keeps up with industry trends and coordinates with neighboring utilities on best utility practices. Leads the continuous development of enhanced power system planning & studies processes, methodologies and tools for quality and efficiencyManages and grows a team of power system engineers of various experience levels, identifies their training and technical development needs. Supervisory duties also required such as performance reviews, setting goals, promotions and hiring.Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or an associated field and 8+ years of professional experience in this field.Electric utility experience/supporting an electric utility provider is required and experience in engineering roles involving transmission planning, design, and strategy is highly preferred.Knowledge in some of the following systems: power system planning software (e.g. PSSE, PowerGEM TARA, or PowerWorld) and understanding of NERC transmission planning standardsKnowledge of utility system operation and protection philosophiesPreferences:An active PE License would be preferred, but not required.Compensation:$130,000 to $165,000 per year annual salary.Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.Benefit packages for this role may include healthcare insurance offerings and paid leave as provided by applicable law.
