Transportation & Highway Technical Manager – Civil Engineering Fisher Associates is seeking a senior‑level Transportation & Highway Technical Manager / Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership on highway and roadway design projects throughout Upstate New York. This role is ideal for an experienced Civil Engineer or Transportation Engineer passionate about transportation infrastructure, roadway design, and mentoring engineering teams. Responsibilities Deliver transportation projects that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life in local communities. Foster a high‑performing, motivated team through clear expectations, constructive feedback, mentoring, and career development. Oversee the design and execution of highway engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements. Serve as a technical lead, guiding the team on best practices, decisions, and troubleshooting as needed. Implement and oversee quality control processes and conduct technical audits to ensure high standards. Maintain effective communication with project managers, clients, and cross‑functional teams. Ensure effective resource allocation, adequate staffing, and utilization to meet project and team goals. Assist in recruiting top engineering talent who align with the team’s technical excellence and company culture. Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance. Stay current with transportation design trends and emerging technologies, integrating them into project solutions. Contribute to the organization’s technical strategy and help forecast future technical needs. Qualifications B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. 8‑15 years’ experience in transportation, roadway, or highway engineering. Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred or ability to obtain it. Prior staff management preferred. Proficiency in MS Office; MicroStation preferred. Familiarity with NYSDOT design standards preferred. Professional performance standards aligned with Fisher’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values. Proven ability to deliver quality work through critical thinking, problem‑solving, and sound judgment.
