As the next transportation engineer - staff engineer for the Cadillac TSC, you'll provide impactful leadership and oversight for a variety of maintenance, renovation and construction projects for MDOTs infrastructure. Your expertise in project management, coordination and attention to detail will directly contribute to enhancing Michigans transportation system operations and the teams success. As the next transportation engineer - staff engineer, you would be responsible for:

  • Designing and preparing plans and analyzing contract documents to develop contract proposals, including special provisions, for projects that include all portions of a rebuilding project, such as storm sewers, major earthwork, alignment relocation, or road construction, as well as resurfacing projects.
  • Defining, monitoring and controlling the scope, cost and schedule for all assigned projects.
  • Providing resolution of traffic and safety issues and permit applications within the Cadillac TSC service area utilizing traffic engineering standards, guides, principles, techniques, and judgement.
  • Assisting in the administration of capital preventive maintenance and bridge and maintenance construction contracts by providing guidance, performance measurement of assigned tasks, and quality control review and direction.

Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to
a Transportation Engineer P11.

Alternate Education and Experience

Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
