Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a 13-week travel contract requiring active CA RN licensure and a minimum of 3 years of ED experience.

Details
  • Acute care hospital Emergency Department setting with 21 beds
  • Fast track area is staffed with midlevel providers and LVNs
  • Typical ED patient population including MedSurg Tele holds; nurses are expected to manage held patients
  • Patient ratios are 1:4, adjusting to 1:2 for ICU-level patients
  • Evening and night shifts, 12-hour shifts (3:00 PM – 3:30 AM)
  • 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; weekends are defined as Fri/Sat for nights and Sat/Sun for days
  • Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedules are set on a 4-week cycle; block scheduling is not permitted
  • Floating may occur between two facilities (approximately 6.5 miles apart) to the ER; mid-shift floating is possible, and travelers will receive a 2-hour notice if floated prior to shift start
  • If placed on standby/call, traveler must be able to report on-site within 30 minutes
  • Travelers are first to float
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Telemetry equipment: Philips; ventilators are in use
  • Pharmacy available 24/7 with Omnicell; Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; no dedicated IV Team
  • In-house MDs available in the ER at all times
Requirements
  • Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department RN experience required
  • Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
  • This facility is a Primary Stroke Center and utilizes a Mobile Evaluation Team (MET) for psychiatric patients; 5150 psych holds are rarely held longer than 12 hours
  • Daily patient volume can vary significantly, ranging from approximately 115 to 175 patients
  • Orientation consists of 3 shifts total: 2 shifts at the primary campus and 1 shift at the secondary campus (12-hour orientation)
  • Charge coverage provided by a shift manager and a resource nurse; ED Techs are EMTs or aides from other units
  • Travel nurses must be highly teamwork oriented; this must be the candidate's primary job — schedules will not be adjusted to accommodate other work
  • Holiday coverage required: 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Scrub color: navy blue; scrub jackets, undershirts, and any layering pieces must be navy, white, or black
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
