Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level 3 trauma facility in Southern Idaho, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to work both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units on night shifts.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting with 11 L&D rooms (doubling as triage rooms), 2 C-section suites, 2 PACU recovery bays, and 17 postpartum beds
  • Unit averages 5–6 deliveries per day and 150–180 deliveries per month
  • Patient population includes 30+ weeks gestation; babies under 30 weeks are stabilized and transferred
  • Triage volume averages 4–5 patients per day who are discharged home, not including admitted patients
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for intrapartum, 1:1–3 for antepartum, and 1:3–4 for postpartum/mother-baby
  • Common titratable drips include Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin
  • Charting system is Epic (CPN, GE Connect for EFM); Epic experience is preferred
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Every other weekend required (nights: Friday & Saturday as able, subject to change based on unit needs)
  • Primary float units are L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby; travelers may also be floated to sitter shifts throughout the hospital and are typically first to float
  • Holiday rotation participation may be required
Requirements
  • Active Idaho RN license or Compact RN license required; must be active (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate (or Advanced) Fetal Monitoring or NCC Fetal Monitoring Certification
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required, along with some postpartum experience
  • Must be comfortable working in both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby settings
  • Must have experience caring for high-risk OB patients
  • Must be able to circulate in C-sections
  • Critical Access Hospital-only experience will not be accepted
  • Insulin drip experience preferred; training is available for candidates without it
  • Epic EMR experience preferred; candidates should be prepared to share when they last used Epic
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required
Additional Information
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Permanent employees of this facility must have been separated for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment
  • Orientation consists of 3 days with a preceptor covering both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby
  • Scheduling is made 6 weeks in advance by the ANM; block scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed, and no special scheduling requests will be accepted
  • Staff and travelers may not work more than 5 consecutive shifts per policy; travelers are asked to remain flexible to fill scheduling gaps
  • Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment unless absolutely necessary; a Resource Nurse is also staffed when possible to assist with triage, deliveries, and general support
  • CNAs are available in Postpartum/Mother-Baby for vitals, baths, ADLs, and blood glucose monitoring; Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) are in house 24/7
  • OB physician is in house Monday–Friday days and on-call at night; Neonatologist is onsite during the day with Neonatal APP coverage at night; CRNA is in house 24/7 for OB anesthesia
  • Telemetry techs are in house; RNs are not required to interpret tele strips independently but should be able to identify rhythm changes and life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 and manages respiratory treatments and equipment
  • The facility is a Level 3 trauma center with a Level 3 NICU supporting 30+ week gestational age patients
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
