Registered Nurse – Neuro-Progressive Care

Schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, Choice of 36 hours/week or 48 hours/week, flexible scheduling available

\n Float Required: Yes – float to areas with competency; internal float team available to assist staffing needs
Note: Epic experience REQUIRED; Neuro-progressive or ICU experience REQUIRED; Neuro competency exam and skills checklist required upon offer; must be comfortable with high-acuity neuro stepdown and progressive care patients

Position Overview:
\n Travel RN – Neuro-Progressive Care providing specialized nursing care for neurologically complex patients in a combined stroke and neuro stepdown unit within a Level I academic medical center. Responsible for close neurological monitoring and management of acute and subacute neuro conditions requiring frequent assessments and rapid intervention.

\n

Job duties:

\n

Provide direct nursing care to neuro-progressive and stepdown patients including stroke, TBI, seizures, brain tumors, aneurysms, and post-neurosurgical cases.
\n Perform frequent neurological assessments, monitor and manage patients receiving thrombolytics (TNK), titrate antihypertensive and neuro-related drips (e.g., Cleviprex), and manage external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and SEPS drains. Monitor patients requiring q15 min to q2 hr assessments, recognize changes in neurological status, escalate care appropriately, and collaborate with multidisciplinary neuro teams.
\n Ensure safe progression of patients from high-acuity neuro care to stepdown and discharge readiness.

\n

Requirements:
\n Licensure: Active RN license
\n Experience: Minimum 2 years Neuro Progressive Care, Stepdown, or ICU experience required
\n Certifications: BLS, ACLS
\n Other requirement: Must complete neuro competency exam and skills checklist upon offer; strong experience in acute neuro conditions strongly preferred; ability to manage high-acuity neurologic monitoring and drips

Unit Details:
\n Unit: D5E Neuro Progressive Care
\n Patient Ratios: 1:3 in progressive care area
\n Patient Population: Stroke, hemorrhagic/ischemic CVA, TBI, seizures, brain tumors, neuromuscular disorders, post-craniotomy, SAH, and post-thrombolytic patients
\n Patient Diagnoses: Acute and chronic neurological disorders requiring continuous or frequent monitoring
\n Number of Beds: 22-bed neuroscience unit (17 progressive care beds)
