The Quality Control Technician – Sterile Processing is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of instrument cleanliness, assembly accuracy, and sterilization quality. This role combines hands-on sterile processing duties with detailed inspection, documentation, and quality assurance to support patient safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, SOPs, and internal work instructions
- Perform decontamination, cleaning, and reassembly of surgical instruments
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and defects prior to sterilization
- Assemble and package instrument trays accurately per guidelines
- Operate washers, disinfectors, and sterilization equipment
- Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, tracking, and inventory
- Identify and document damaged or missing instruments
- Monitor and maintain supply and instrument inventory levels
- Ensure compliance with infection control and quality standards
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of processing equipment
- Maintain clean and organized workstations and decontamination areas
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and operations staff
- Provide feedback to improve workflows and quality processes
- Participate in training and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Fast-paced, controlled indoor environment
- Exposure to biohazardous materials and strong odors
- Moderate noise levels
- Extended periods of standing
- Required use of PPE at all times
- Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
- Strong knowledge of decontamination, assembly, and sterilization processes
- Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs
- Experience operating autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and sterilization equipment
- Strong attention to detail and quality assurance mindset
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Basic computer skills for documentation and tracking systems
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Prior experience in Quality Control / Quality Assurance within sterile processing
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent) – Required
