Position Overview
Responsible for managing dispatch operations for a local drayage fleet (10 tractors and 2 straight trucks) while coordinating nationwide truck brokerage shipments. This role ensures efficient freight movement, driver compliance, and real-time shipment tracking while maintaining strong relationships with owner operators and external carriers.
Key Responsibilities
Local Drayage Operations
- Assign drivers and vehicles to transport freight to designated destinations
- Dispatch owner operators for pickup and final delivery
- Confirm successful pickup and delivery completion
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and HOS regulations
- Verify bill of lading details, container numbers, and piece counts
- Confirm cargo availability and release from pier or rail yard
Truck Brokerage Operations
- Arrange nationwide pickup and delivery of freight
- Coordinate transloads and shipments outside local operating authority
- Manage payments to outside carriers
- Support brokers with transportation coordination
Dispatch & Coordination
- Monitor routes and real-time field unit status
- Prioritize schedules and adjust routes for efficiency
- Provide drivers with order updates, traffic alerts, and delivery requirements
- Schedule and confirm deliveries
- Track trucks and freight using online systems
- Troubleshoot shipment issues and delays
- Notify internal teams of service disruptions
Administrative & System Management
- Enter dispatch data and maintain logs in Profit Tools
- Process driver settlements and pay statements
- Upload and manage shipping documentation
- Maintain updated dispatch board
- Record driver and owner operator requests and follow up
Relationship Management
- Maintain strong working relationships with owner operators and fleet partners
- Communicate with vendors, brokers, and customer service teams
- Support ongoing transportation coordination
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years freight dispatch experience
- Experience with Profit Tools strongly preferred
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Flexible availability
- High school diploma or equivalent
