THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is on the lookout for aspiring UCC Building Inspector Trainees who want to earn while they learn. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be tasked with participating in a thorough training program to assist in reporting unsafe conditions and violations. Your duties will also involve conducting Accessibility Audits to guarantee adherence to Accessibility Standards and Building Codes. Furthermore, you will receive guidance and training for carrying out inspections, as well as conducting investigations involving building code officials to ensure compliance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. Must reside in one of the following counties within six months of being certified: Centre, or Clinton.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, or other public use buildings for compliance with building and safety codes; or
  • Two years of building construction work which included the performance of skilled trades duties in the electrical, structural, plumbing, or mechanical trades; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Post Employment Requirements:
  • Valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Accessibility Inspector/Plan Examiner within the probationary period.
  • All positions in this job also require one of the following valid certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, within the probationary period: Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, or Energy Inspector.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
