Professional Opportunity: Upper School College Counselor (1.0 FTE: .80 College Counselor, .20 Instructor)

Saint Georges School is an independent K-12 school, serving a population of approximately 340 students from the greater Spokane area. The school offers a vibrant and challenging academic program highlighted by the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program in 11th and 12th grades and complemented by a well-developed set of enrichment offerings. Saint Georges School seeks an experienced and passionate Upper School College Counselor to join our team. As an Upper School College Counselor, you will be responsible for helping students plan for their academic and career futures, including college and post-secondary education. You will work closely with students and families to provide guidance, support, and resources throughout the college application and admission process.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of the college offices mission, strategy, and overall goals and objectives.
  • Administer the college offices budget and purchasing.
  • Establish and execute college guidance curriculum.
  • Provide comprehensive educational, college, and financial aid planning for students and their families.
  • Manage a college and career office where students access information and resources.
  • Work with the Student Support team to support students with disabilities and language needs in preparing for college admissions and transition.
  • Provide guidance for students and families through one-on-one meetings that include, but are not limited to, proofreading essays, interview preparation, college list development, athletic and/or artistic recruitment, and financial aid.
  • Provide information sessions and support for families in understanding the college application and financial aid process.
  • Work with teachers to develop an advisory curriculum of college readiness with goals and activities for all grade levels informed by the college readiness standards.
  • Collect and disseminate information to students and their parents on summer opportunities and internships and encourage and support students in making summer plans.
  • Track student information such as test scores, attendance, GPA, community service hours, college lists, acceptances, decisions, statistics, etc.
  • Promote and ensure students have completed Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirements before graduation.
  • Support students and families in finding scholarships and college funding.
  • Keep parents informed through regular communication.
  • Maintain and disseminate information about standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL
  • Coordinate and support test preparation activities including summer, afterschool, etc.
  • Work with the Student Support team to arrange for extended time on tests.
  • Introduce our program to colleges and universities and fostering partnerships.
  • Compile a School profile, as well as information on grading and course offerings to communicate with colleges and universities.
  • Set up college visits and tours for students.
  • Arrange for college admissions representatives to visit our campus and facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students.
  • Serve as liaison with college admissions offices and completing all School Report and midyear report forms requested by colleges.
  • Establish partnerships with local and national organizations to support our students with college preparation and scholarships.
  • Be aware of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, as well as keep up to date about specific colleges and use this information to inform future educational and programmatic planning.
  • Maintain records on juniors and seniors.
  • Maintain membership in professional organizations.
  • Coordinate the Spokane Scholars program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or related field, Masters degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, higher education, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in college counseling or related field.
  • Experience with Scoir, Naviance, or Slate to monitor student progress as well as working knowledge of the Google Suite (google docs, forms, and slide decks) and social media.
  • Knowledge of college admission requirements, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Salary: Starting at $60,000, depending on experience.
