Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (an anticipated 15 hours per week) Veterinary Diagnostic Lab Receiving position for the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position provides support for the Receiving section of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL). Duties include accepting and evaluating suitability of diagnostic specimens for testing; accessioning specimens into the VDL laboratory information management system; labeling specimens; maintaining chain of custody records; and distribution of specimens to section laboratories.
This position provides support for the Receiving section of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL). Duties include accepting and evaluating suitability of diagnostic specimens for testing; accessioning specimens into the VDL laboratory information management system; labeling specimens; maintaining chain of custody records; and distribution of specimens to section laboratories.
Position Duties
50% - Accessioning, preparing, and delivering samples to various sections in the Diagnostic Lab.
25% Inventory of supplies, filling orders and packing supplies, and cleaning.
25% - Assisting clients. Clerical duties such as: data entry, filing, emptying confidential recycling, organizing notebooks, etc.
Minimum Qualifications

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
- Basic typing skills. Thoroughness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively and cordially interact and communicate with the public.
- Ability to adhere to safety procedures, standard operating procedures, and guided instructions.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Veterinary or Laboratory experience.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
- Position duties require routine exposure to a variety of tissue, fecal, and/or blood or other bodily fluid samples, as well as infectious and/or dead animals and noxious odors daily.
