Shift: First Shift (May include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Specific shift times may vary between 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, and may depend on the specific hospital and specialty.)

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Physical Therapist (PT) to provide high-quality rehabilitation services to Veterans. You will play a vital role in improving their mobility, function, and quality of life through state-of-the-art therapy techniques, adhering to The Joint Commission and American Board of Physical Therapy standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to establish functional short- and long-term rehabilitation goals.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to prevent disability, reduce pain, restore function, and increase patient participation.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions, including posture training, gait analysis, strength and endurance exercises, balance and coordination training, joint mobilization, and functional movement tasks.
  • Monitor, document, and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on rehabilitation strategies and home management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records (CPRS) in accordance with VA documentation policies, including initial assessments, progress notes, and final evaluations.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, discharge planning, and specialty clinics to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Adhere to VA policies regarding patient confidentiality, infection control, and safety protocols.
  • Utilize and train patients on the safe and effective use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, braces).
  • Participate in mandatory training and maintain BLS certification as per VHA Directive 1177.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a hospital or ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience in conducting therapy assessments/evaluations and developing/implementing therapeutic treatment plans for patients with diagnoses including, but not limited to, orthopedics, neurology, cardiovascular, pulmonary, geriatrics, wound care/lymphedema, and chronic pain.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform various evaluations, including musculoskeletal, physical therapy, general therapy screenings, prosthetic and adaptive equipment, aquatic therapy, wheelchair seating, pelvic health and positioning, and home evaluations.
  • Ability to assess patients' physical, functional, psychosocial, and emotional needs and develop comprehensive, dynamic treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in computerized patient record systems (CPRS) and accurate documentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, gait training, functional activity training, pain management, and adaptive equipment evaluations.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with Veterans, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Fluency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
  • Ability to provide documentation upon request to verify current competency, skills, certifications, and licensure.
  • Willingness to abide by the Facility's Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, and regulations.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with standardized neurological occupational therapy evaluations, general therapy screenings, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) evaluations, and adaptive equipment evaluations and assessments.
