Job Title: Visitor Experience Associate
FLSA: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Full-time (up to 40 hours per week)
Reports To: Director of Visitor Experience
Wage Range: $16.00
Summary
Serving more than 300,000 adults and children each year, the Connecticut Science Center is the states premier destination for informal science learning, a top tourist attraction, a hub for teacher training, and one of the states foremost resources for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).The Seasonal Visitor Experience Associate is someone with energy, customer service and/or hospitality experience, who will make the customer centered concept a daily reality in all interactions, decisions, and exchanges they have with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greets all visitors by creating a welcoming and friendly environment where they receive prompt, efficient, and pleasant service in person, on the phone, and via e-mail.
- Anticipates and responds to visitor needs by providing accurate and helpful information about the Science Center and its offerings, including programs, movies and membership.
- Proactively and continuously finds way to enhance the Visitor Experience.
- Efficiently and effectively processes visitors from gate/sales stations and points of entry using computerized ticketing system.
- Moves throughout assigned exhibit galleries maintaining high visibility and pro-actively assists visitors with questions and interacts with them regarding the exhibits and associated educational content.
- Manages visitor flow within galleries, serves as soft security presence giving special attention to matters of health and safety of visitors, staff, the exhibits, and the facility.
- Assists with group arrival and departure procedures including, but not limited to logistical coordination & greeting of buses, off-loading passengers, and escorting groups to their on-site destinations.
- Solicits and records visitor feedback, suggestions, complaints, and compliments about their experience at the Science Center. Makes management aware of such feedback.
- Supports the retail operations of the Gift Shop including restocking inventory, processing sales transactions and providing customer service.
- Contributes positively and enthusiastically as part of a team-oriented department. Alerts supervisory staff of potential problems and possibilities.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- As the primary sales force of Science Center Membership, promotes and educates visitors on the benefits of the program.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Some higher education a plus.
- Ability to speak other languages a plus.
- High energy, enthusiastic, customer-centered acumen is essential.
- Must possess superior interpersonal and communications skills, as well as the ability to work with the public requiring a high degree of patience and the ability to maintain a calm exterior during periods of high volume, high stress, or unusual events.
- Proven ability to work comfortably and efficiently with computers, registers, and other electronic processing equipment.
- High degree of comfort interacting with and assisting visitors of all ages and from all backgrounds.
- Must possess the ability to accurately and responsibly handle cash, change, credit cards, and other financial processes at a point-of-sale workstation.
- Willingness and ability to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours, as well as leave early if required.
- Ability and expectation to work on site.

- Must provide proof of COVID vaccination or be approved for a medical or religious exemption, should such exemptions be part of employers policies, which may change from time to time.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive movement of hands and fingers typing and/or writing.
- Frequent standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time.
- Reaching with hands and arms.
- Ability to climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision and depth perception
