About the role

Join Pearson's Higher Education team as the VP, Strategic Partnerships , a key role driving over 50% of our total revenue through strategic partnerships. This position is more than a job; it's a chance to significantly impact Pearson's success and your career growth.

In this dynamic role, you'll lead strategic business development, understand the publishing market, source competitive intelligence, and integrate partner functionalities with Pearson content. You'll be pivotal in contract negotiations and monitoring key performance metrics, ensuring organizational alignment and operational success.

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, you'll be a major part of Pearsons transformative journey, influencing sales, services, operations, and finance. Although you wouldnt initially have any direct reports, you'll collaborate with our internal operations team, driving a vision of commercial excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Alignment and Performance Management: Lead and align strategies with Pearson and our Strategic Partners to optimize growth.
  • Business Plan Development and Monitoring: Develop, implement, and regularly review comprehensive business plans and budgets, adjusting as necessary to achieve commercial growth through strategic partnerships.
  • Performance Reporting and Risk Management: Consistently report on partner commercial health, key performance indicators, and manage risks and opportunities to the Executive Leadership team.
  • Commercial Contract Negotiation: Partner with legal to oversee and manage the negotiation of commercial terms and conditions, ensuring effective contract execution and compliance.
  • Contract Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to craft and negotiate commercial contracts and delivery terms with VP+ level stakeholders.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration and Goal Setting: Work collaboratively across various departments to define and achieve key goals, partner engagement objectives, and key performance indicators.
  • Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis: Gather, analyze, and utilize market trends and competitive intelligence related to strategic partners for informed decision-making.
  • Partner and Channel Support Representation: Actively represent Pearson in all partner-related activities, including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and SWOT analysis for each partnership.
  • Team Communication and Relationship Building: Ensure effective communication across teams regarding account health, drive renewal strategies for high-risk accounts, and build productive and trusting relationships with partner teams, supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Act as a senior escalation point for partnership issues, ensuring smooth business operations and internal alignment on partner initiatives.

About you

Essential:

  • Commercial Experience: Proven track record in driving growth and improved outcomes with business partners.
  • Process Modernization: Proficiency in modernizing processes and programs within complex organizations.
  • Influential Leadership: Demonstrated success in using influence (rather than direct authority) to drive change and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Vendor Management: Experience in managing vendors crucial for revenue growth and successful outcomes.
  • Extensive Sales Experience: Minimum of 10 years in sales or customer-facing roles within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Contract Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to craft and negotiate contracts, including commercial and delivery terms, with VP+ level stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong experience working with both internal and external VP+ level stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Specialized Knowledge: Expertise in EdTech and digital subscription products (B2B, B2C, B2C2B).
  • Educational Sector Collaboration: Experience in collaborating with higher education and learning institutions.
  • Educational Qualification: Bachelors degree.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $215,000 - $220,000.
