Assists surgical team in delivering direct patient care, during and after operative procedures. Cares for patients of all ages. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the surgeon at the sterile field using the procedure following established procedures.
- Assist patient and surgeon with procedure/surgery preparation.
- Provide requested instrumentation.
- Assist RN with the preparation of the patient before the procedure following established guidelines and safety procedures.
- Prepare the operating room for the procedure to ensure patient safety.
- Ensure all required equipment and instrumentation is available in the room.
- Ensures additional supplies are available as needed.
- Set up the room based on procedure type.
- Perform post-procedure duties following established guidelines.
- Assist with room turnover, instrumentation, and equipment post-procedure processing.
- Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department-specific software applications to perform work.
- Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace.
- Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities.
- Complete all mandatory learning requirements promptly.
- Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team, and/or committee meetings.
- Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department, and location-specific policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
Experience: Previous healthcare experience preferred.
Education: High School diploma or GED required. Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or US military Operating Room training preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registration:
- Current Washington State Surgical Technologist registration is required.
- Current AHA (American Heart Association) Healthcare Provider BLS required.
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred.
EMR System: experience preferred
Shift: Variable shift, call required, and floating as needed.
Other Skills:
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work.
- Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills are required.
- Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities.
- Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and principles of aseptic technique.
- Understanding of surgical service protocols and surgical equipment.
- Working knowledge of anatomy.
- Proficient in the use of surgical instrumentation, instrument handling, provider assistance, and room set-up/tear-down.
- Must be able to stand for long periods with constant stooping, bending, and overhead reaching.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds. Ability to withstand repetitive hand movement and a tolerance for exposure to conditions of an operating room.
- Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
