THE POSITION

Do you possess a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification Wastewater System Operators (Class C, Subclass 2 or higher)? If so, look no further! The Department of Human Services, is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at White Haven Center. This position is part of the White Haven Center stay-behind maintenance team and remains operational.

Working full-time for a government organization, including White Haven Center, you may qualify for the Free College Benefit Program which provides assistance with costs associated with higher education. Additionally, you may qualify for the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. This program offers assistance with student loan debt.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will provide for the proper settling, biological oxidation, digestion and disinfection of the center's wastewater and sludge by reading meters and gauges; operating skimmers, scum breaker, sludge pump, filter pumps and filters, digester, and chlorinator; and completing laboratory monitoring and record keeping. Completion of these duties must produce a wastewater effluent of sufficient quality to meet the requirements of the NPDES discharge permit issued by the Department of Environmental Resources.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Rotating weekends and holidays for daily testing.
  • Overtime and travel as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (commonwealth title) program and certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant; or
  • Possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant.

Special Requirements:
  • You must possess an active PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
  • You must possess a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification Wastewater System Operators (Class C, Subclass 2 or higher).

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
