Position Information

Water Systems Operator I (BC-09)
$5,389/month
Operates, through telemetering and supervisory controls from the control center for the island-wide water system, electrically-operated water pumping stations, auxiliary equipment, and distribution system equipment on an assigned shift; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Board of Water Supply, located in Honolulu. The position participates and assists the Water Systems Operator II with the operation of the Water Systems Control Center and the Departments after-hours headquarters, on an assigned shift; as required, assists a journeyman mechanic installing, repairing, overhauling and maintaining pumping plant and water systems equipment; performs various unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance of buildings, reservoirs and related water systems structures. Rotating shift, holiday, and weekend work required. Work schedules are eight hours per day, five days per week, on one of the following work shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Special Working Conditions: Heavy machinery, high voltage electricity, chlorine gas, moving machinery, working scaffolds.

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey-level skills and duties of this position, or which show equivalent competence in the operation of pumping plant, power plant, marine engine room, or related industrial-type equipment.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures used in the operation of pumping plant equipment; types and functions of machinery and equipment used in a pumping station; and principles and practices of elementary electricity and hydraulics. Additionally, such experience must have demonstrated the ability to operate electrical pumping units, auxiliary equipment, and distribution system equipment; and read meters and gauges, record readings, and prepare and keep operational records.
