Here is a once in a lifetime opportunity! We are pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for our Director of Nursing Position, here at the historic Washington Soldiers Home! This is a Full Time, Permanent position!

Here at the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), we are passionate about our mission of Serving Those Who Served. As a national leader in our advocacy for more than 500,000 veterans and their family members, we strive to connect them to earned benefits as well as innovative programs focused on their overall health and wellness. In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to honorably discharged veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

We are looking for a Director of Nursing Services for our Washington Soldiers Home. In this position, you will be promoting quality care of our veteran residents through open communication, participative leadership, and educated decision making. Managing the nursing services of this home encompasses being an empathetic leader to our employees and residents, and assuring that through direct supervision and program management, we are successful in meeting individual and medical standards of care. Additionally, you will be working cooperatively with the facilitys Medical Director, other Homes across the state, our Central office, and other outside service and treatment providers. Duties



Some of what you will be doing:


  • The Director of Nursing position is responsible for planning, organization, direction, supervision and evaluation of all nursing services provided in a skilled nursing, assisted living and independent living home.
  • Manage, plan, lead, and organize the nursing services of the Washington Soldiers Home which provides 3 levels of nursing care to residents of the home.
  • Directs, supervises, coaches, and mentors nursing personnel and is responsible for developing, organizing, and evaluating nursing care program.
  • Ensures compliance and training needs through programs, such as utilization review, quality assurance, infection control and medication error review.
  • Together with the medical staff and representatives of other disciplines, plans for needs and improvements of nursing and health care programs and their evaluation.

Qualifications

Required:
Required Qualifications:

  • Must currently hold a valid Registered Nursing licensing in the State of Washington.
  • Possess an unencumbered Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations.
  • Strong leadership skills with 5 years management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a DNS.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Five years documented experience in long term care to include supervision and management.
  • Five years documented experience in nursing practice, supervision and management of professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery and monitoring of social and health service programs and working with vulnerable adults in a medical community.
  • Knowledge of geriatrics, developmental disabilities, and mental illness.
  • Ability to manage and direct nurses in the work unit, and make key decisions regarding actions and processes followed regarding quality of care and life issues.
  • Demonstrate an extensive understanding of state and federal regulations, and interpretations pertaining to nursing homes and specific to the Veterans Administration.
  • Be familiar with the civil and criminal law and professional regulations related to abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults.

  • Problem solving skills in developing solutions for unanticipated issues and challenges
  • Ability to understand and apply organization theories and practices in the administration of policies, practices, programs, and communications.
