Yard Assistant Apply
Warfel Construction is currently looking for a Yard Assistant. The Yard Assistant role reports directly to the Shop Foreman in addition to the Director of Field Operations. This position requires strict adherence to all Warfel safety rules and regulations, including any site-specific necessities.
Standard work hours are M – F, beginning at 7:00 AM through 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch. Occasional Saturday work and overtime may be required. Travel to and from the jobsite may occur daily depending on project-specific needs; reliable transportation is required. This position does require the ability to work in ever-changing work environments, including variable weather conditions.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist Shop Foreman in maintaining tool inventory system.
- Make truck deliveries from storage yard to jobsites and from jobsite to jobsite. Deliveries will vary in size of material and equipment.
- Pick up material from vendors and suppliers, check for damaged or defective items, load and unload material and equipment (using tie down straps or hold down chains).
- Maintain and repair tools and other items as needed.
- Set alarm system for yard shop and check security of building/gates on a daily basis.
- Maintain all office and yard parking lots and warehouse storage area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Check that all lighting systems are in operation.
- Needs to have a commitment to safety and keeping work area neat and clean.
- Logging tools in and out from jobsites, checking for proper operations before putting tools away or sending out.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
- High school degree or GED equivalent
- Ability to work within standard of accuracy and must be able to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Must have a valid PA Driver’s License and be informed of all regulations of the Commercial Motor Vehicle code. Must pass a DOT physical.
- Must be comfortable driving a stake body truck with a trailer and equipment.
- A working knowledge of carpentry is essential, as many projects and repairs include wood components.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing: Approximately 95% of your time
- Sitting: Approximately 5% of your time
- Walking: Frequent walking required as your change positions & locations
- Lifting: Lift & Carry materials weighing between 50 and 100 lbs. Frequency varies based on work at the time. Equipment may be available for assistance.
- Pushing: Push materials weighing no more than 50 lbs. Frequency varies based on work at the time. Equipment is available for assistance.
- Pulling: Pull materials weighing no more than 50 lbs. Frequency varies based on work at the time. Equipment is available for assistance.
- Climbing: Climbing up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools & equipment may occur.
- Bending: Bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl as appropriate.
- Heights: Working at heights will vary, as well as working with various pieces of equipment that will provide protection at such heights; scaffolds, aerial man lifts, and personal fall protection.
- This position requires the use of arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
