Job Description
Title: Youth Development Professional-Wasatch County Area
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Compensation: $18-20/hour
Work Schedule: Part Time, Afterschool to 6 pm
Location: Successful candidates will be assigned to Heber Valley Elementary
Main Objective
To nurture healthy relationships with children, parents, faculty, and co-workers. Educate and develop children's social & emotional intelligence, create positive experiences, and establish a physically & emotionally safe environment. Nurture harmony and relationships at your school site.
Hours Expectations
Hours may vary depending on location. Start times are 2:30 pm Tuesday through Friday, with an estimated end time that could be as late as 6:00 pm. Program hours could be an estimated 12 hours per week, depending on site location.
Training
In addition to your normal site program hours, you have the following training requirements.
Program Start Training: TBD by Site Director/Coordinator.
Weekly: Orchestrated and scheduled by your Site Director/Coordinator at your school, you will have weekly staff site meetings that may be 30 to 60 minutes long. Staff meetings are scheduled immediately after the program.
Monthly: Training is scheduled monthly. There are a couple of Saturdays during the school year for conference attendance.
Quarterly: TBD
Availability
The expectation is that you arrive and leave on time and work your assigned schedule, which includes additional hours for training. Your schedule is from the time the bell rings until 5:30. Some sites are open until 6:00.
Expectations
YDPs are expected to perform the following each day of the program at your assigned site.
- Play and positively interact with the children throughout the program
- Engage with children.
- Conduct physical activities: i.e., soccer, basketball, playground games.
- Conflict resolution between children, staff members, and parents.
- Learn emotional support and assist club members.
- Strengthen your skills of social & emotional intelligence for yourself and children.
- Ability to stand outside for at least 30 minutes supervising recess (rain or shine).
- Learn and improve interpersonal skills, communication, and child development knowledge.
- Be your best positive self at work.
- Teach and lead activities/lessons. Coordinate with your Site Director/Coordinator on the activity and lesson schedule.
- Request supplies needed for your lessons.
- Meet requirements and expectations.
- Attend and actively participate in staff site weekly, monthly & quarterly meetings.
- Administer member surveys.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in working with children
- Kowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior
- Ability to work with the school and general public
- CPR, First Aid, and food handlers certifications may be required
- Some sites may require a valid Utah driver's license
- Must be 18 or older to work in elementary age sites; 21 or older for our teen program sites.
