Job Summary:

The Business Services Office at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) is looking for a motivated and team-oriented person to provide financial support and policy expertise in the areas of purchasing, travel and expense reimbursement, transaction review and approval, gift processing, property management, financial reporting and budget management. The person in this position will function both independently and within a team and perform highly responsible financial tasks under the general supervision of the Business Services Manager.

This position executes and guides financial and accounting transactions for CALS in multiple finance functional areas. This role will be responsible for auditing and approving financial transactions, preparing financial reports and budget management. The incumbent participates in day-to-day financial operations of the college to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reports and will guide other faculty and departmental staff. The position recommends and implements fiscal policies and participates in the development and implementation of new systems and processes to improve customer service, efficiency, and internal controls.

Qualifications:

This position is posted at the levels of Accountant I, II and III. The level of the position will be determined based upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience as described below.

Accountant I: Education, training or experience working in an accounting or finance field is preferred.

Accountant II: At least one year of professional experience working in an accounting or finance field is required.

Accountant III: At least three years of professional experience working in an accounting or finance field is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications for all levels:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software (examples of proficient use includes: formulas/functions; conditional formatting; pivot tables; filters or slicers; data validation, etc).
  • Providing customer service to a variety of audiences (responding to inquiries; working with people of varying backgrounds; troubleshooting; follow-up; providing basic training; communicating technical concepts).
  • Effectively and independently manage a high volume of varied tasks (e.g., organizing; prioritizing; consistently meeting deadlines; attention to detail; accuracy).

In addition to the above, to be considered for a level II or level III position, the following qualifications are also required:

  • Experience with financial systems software, and preparation of financial reports and data (please provide examples of systems you have used and reports you have generated).
  • Experience working with and interpreting policies and regulations and applying them to practical situations.

In addition to all of the above, to be considered for a level III position, the following qualification is also required:

  • Experience working in a lead worker capacity in a financial setting and/or having expertise in a specific financial area.

Preferred Qualifications for all levels:

  • Knowledge of UW, State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Experience managing finances within an institution of higher education.
  • Working knowledge of UW financial systems and tools: PeopleSoft financial and human resources software (UW SFS and HRS), Workday financial and human resources software, Jaegger procurement software (Shop UW+), UW-Madison Journal Entry Tool (JET), UW-Madison Cost Transfer Tool
  • Experience organizing, interpreting, and analyzing financial data.
  • Education, training and/or experience with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and fund accounting

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The anticipated salary ranges are as follows:

-Accountant I: $55,000 - $64,750
-Accountant II: $62,000 - $72,000
-Accountant III: $75,000 - $85,000

Final salary will depend upon experience and qualifications.
