The Core Systems Developer I is responsible for completing software development activities for both new projects and maintenance work requests from end-users for various enterprise and Line of Business (LOB) specific business applications. This position requires using SSDLC practices for development and standard Source Control software for software change control. In addition, this role is responsible for the day-to-day application support associated with those applications, including but not limited to, addressing end-user questions related to application functionality. Application Development (60%) a) Analyze current system capabilities, processing workflows, and job schedules to determine if a new program or change to an existing module is needed. b) Ensure SSDLC methodology is consistently followed on all projects and development requests. Produce detailed design specifications outlining what is required to develop or modify computer program. c) Develop new software solutions or modify existing program code to deliver the desired functionality and/or reports. d) Perform Unit, Integration, System, and Regression testing to ensure code quality. e) Initiate the necessary change control steps to implement changes/new modules into production environment. f) Ensures proper policies, procedures, risk mitigation activities, and operating controls are followed. Reports gaps in policies, procedures, and operating controls to leadership to ensure member impact and risk is mitigated. Production Support (30%) a) Provide 24x7x365 support when required (including after-hours/weekends) b) Analyze and correct defects/issues and implement fixes into production environment c) Apply, test, and implement scheduled 3rd party vendor software upgrades / releases d) Interface with 3rd party vendors for technical support (as needed) e) Troubleshoot poorly performing process / tune (if warranted) Other Duties as Assigned (10%) a) Participate in annual Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity testing activities b) Analyze and correct issues identified by internal auditors and/or external examiners c) Prepare technical reports, memoranda, or other documentation as directed by IT management Required Skills This position must possess a working knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle concepts (e.g. analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation). The following are also required: A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Candidates who present an equivalent combination of other formal training (e.g. Associates Degree) and minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible computer programming experience may also be considered. A minimum of 2 years of experience with Windows-based hardware and software. Ability to work on multiple efforts at the same time and consistently meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and proven ability to interact with end-users. Familiarity with Financial Services products and services is preferred. Experience with Episys PowerON, RepGEN, and SymFORM programming is highly desired.
