Job Description – Field Supervisor

Role Overview

Cocoon Inc. is seeking a Field Supervisor, who is a working supervisor responsible for managing day-to-day field operations on construction sites, typically at secure government or military locations. This role leads a crew of about 2 to 8 workers, coordinates daily activities, enforces onsite safety, and helps ensure the project is completed on schedule and to quality standards. The position requires frequent travel, the ability to maintain required security clearance, and regular communication with customers, remote project engineers, and site stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and actively participate in field installation work as a working supervisor, including layout, assembly, erection, and final fit-out of tension fabric structures and metal panel systems.
  • Organize daily crew activities, assign tasks, monitor progress, and keep the team aligned to schedule, quality, and production goals.
  • Lead daily onsite safety meetings, enforce OSHA requirements, and identify/correct unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Oversee rigging, lifting, and material handling activities, including use of a telehandler, forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, and crane operations when required.
  • Perform or direct installation and troubleshooting of electrical lighting, heaters, HVAC components such as fans, louvers, ductwork, and dehumidifiers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and lift plans to verify correct installation and field execution.
  • Coordinate with base civil engineers, project managers, inspectors, and other customer representatives to communicate progress and resolve field issues.
  • Troubleshoot onsite issues such as door controls, limit switches, heaters, and other system or equipment problems, escalating more complex issues to remote project engineers as needed.
  • Control ancillary material purchases and spending to support field completion while remaining fiscally responsible.
  • Maintain secure-site access requirements and comply with all base, company, and OSHA procedures.

Experience & Education

  • Proven construction supervisory experience in a hands-on field role.
  • Strong knowledge of working at heights, fall protection, rigging, and material lifting practices.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and jobsite safety leadership.
  • Experience with construction equipment such as forklifts, lulls, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.

Capabilities

  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Basic welding knowledge and familiarity with structural steel, fabrication, and enclosure systems.
  • Working understanding of electrical systems, HVAC components, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills for crew leadership, customer interaction, and remote coordination.
  • Ability to make sound field decisions, solve problems onsite, and keep work moving.
  • Physical capability to perform demanding construction work in varied weather and travel conditions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance for military or government sites.

Travel & Work Environment

  • Extensive travel required, with assignments that may keep the employee away from home for several weeks at a time.
  • Work is performed primarily on active job sites, often at secured government or military facilities.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing site conditions, weather exposure, and variable project schedules.
  • Regular work may involve standing, climbing, lifting, and performing physically demanding tasks in field conditions.
  • Overtime, early starts, or extended workdays may be required to meet project milestones.
  • The role requires flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent priorities and field issues.
