The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a level 2 trauma center at UMC Childrens Hospital is a 16 bed unit, serving patients ages 0-20 suffering life threatening illnesses or injuries. An RN in our PICU will learn and gain experience in a family centered atmosphere where medical and surgical care is provided using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Combining the talents of more than 30 specialists and sub-specialists, children at UMC are treated for a wide range of needs that can include trauma, general surgery, cardiology, neurology and neurological surgery, oncology/hematology, endocrinology, and burn care.

Assesses, implements or delegates, plans, and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing and directing patient care for a group of patients. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Texas GN Permit or newly licensed RN with no experience
  • Must maintain a current BLS & PALS certification from American Heart
Association
  • BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire
