Senior Transportation Surveyor Department of Transportation Under the general direction of a Supervising Transportation Surveyor, the Senior Transportation Surveyor is responsible for supervising a unit of professional and non-professional surveying staff engaged in all phases of land surveying activities. The incumbent also serves as a liaison between Office and Field Surveys and other Caltrans Functional units, Headquarters, other public agencies and the general public. Incumbent must possess a valid a California Land Surveyor License or be a Register Engineer qualified to practice Land Surveying in the State of California. PARF# 31-5-007 / JC-500324 Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Surveyor (Caltrans) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Land Surveying License issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, this is not required. Incumbent must possess a valid a California Land Surveyor License or be a Register Engineer qualified to practice Land Surveying in the State of California. Statement of qualifications (SOQ) required. The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered and in disqualification from the interview. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12-point Arial font. Please include a 1–2-page SOQ that describes your experience as it relates to this position. Please make sure to describe and identify the number of years of your experience for each category. Experience with and knowledge of modern surveying technology and techniques. Ability to manage multiple tasks, complete administrative assignments, meet deadlines, track and manage resource allocations, stay within budget. Experience supervising or leading a survey crew or crews performing a variety of tasks including design surveys, RW surveys, monumentation surveys and construction surveys. Experience writing technical survey and administrative reports. Experience communicating with other functional units, participating on project teams. Experience evaluating the performance of employees supervised. Knowledge of CT personnel practices and policies. Experience with and knowledge of Caltrans Safety policies and procedures.
