We're partnering with a company in the Logistics space, who are one of the largest natural food distributors in the country! Employee-owned, our client is passionate about innovation and integrity, and as they continue with an ongoing migration from legacy SQL/SSIS into AWS, they are looking to expand their team, by bringing onboard a lead Data Engineer! Please note! This role requires three days onsite in Naperville, IL, just outside Chicago! Our client places tremendous value in the benefits of collaborative work. WHAT YOU'LL DO Serve as the technical lead for the data engineering team, guiding development decisions, unblocking engineers, and maintaining the quality bar without direct management authority Lead future development efforts of a mature, high-visibility profitability product immediately post-launch Participate in architecture design and represent the team in cross-functional architect committee Mentor junior and mid-level engineers as a core part of your day-to-day, not a side responsibility Partner with the Engineering Manager on sprint planning and bodies of work in a two-week Agile cadence Interface with business stakeholders to communicate technical concepts clearly and credibly Reinforce and model SDLC principles and enterprise engineering best practices across the team WHAT YOU BRI NG 7+ years of focused data engineering experience in enterprise or midsize-to-large organizations AWS as your dominant cloud platform, with hands-on experience in the past couple of years, this role lives in the AWS-native dirty details Strong Python, SQL and PySpark proficiency; the ability to write clean, production-grade code matters more than familiarity with any specific orchestration tool Experience with analytical data warehousing; Redshift is the platform in use, though Databricks or Snowflake backgrounds with strong SQL and PySpark transfer well A genuine understanding of SDLC principles and why they matter in a mature engineering organization, not just familiarity with the vocabulary Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technically without holding direct authority over the engineers you're guiding Communication skills sufficient to hold a room with non-technical business stakeholders, this is not a heads-down-only environment MMD Services Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
