About the Role:
We are seeking a Municipal Associate Attorney to join a well-established municipal law practice in Seattle, Washington. This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney with at least 3 years of legal experience or a strong interest in municipal law to advise public sector clients on a wide range of local government matters.
The successful candidate will work closely with city councils, mayors, municipal staff, and public boards while handling diverse legal issues involving land use, public records, municipal governance, contracts, employment matters, and litigation. This position offers meaningful client interaction, significant responsibility, and the opportunity to build a long-term practice within a collaborative and highly respected legal team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise city councils, mayors, municipal staff, and local boards and commissions on a variety of legal matters.
- Research and analyze complex municipal law issues.
- Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, policies, procedures, and other municipal documents.
- Provide day-to-day legal advice to municipal clients via telephone and email.
- Counsel clients on compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Attend city council, board, and commission meetings as legal counsel.
- Represent municipalities in litigation, administrative appeals, hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Review municipal documents for compliance with Public Records Act requirements.
- Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, deeds, leases, easements, bid documents, bonds, interlocal agreements, and related legal documents.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through practical legal guidance and responsive service.
- Collaborate with attorneys and staff to deliver high-quality legal solutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the State of Washington.
- Minimum of 3 years of legal experience or demonstrated interest in municipal law.
- Experience or interest in one or more of the following:
- Land use and zoning
- Public records and open government laws
- Public bidding and procurement
- Municipal ethics
- Tribal law
- Water law
- Employment and labor law
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Litigation experience preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-motivated team player with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
