Our client

We are seeking an experienced OSP Construction Inspector / Site Surveyor to support a variety of fiber broadband infrastructure projects, including FTTH, middle-mile, and long-haul fiber construction. In this role, you will perform field inspections, site surveys, and staking activities to ensure aerial and underground fiber construction is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications. This position requires extensive travel and hands-on field work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of aerial and underground fiber optic construction.
  • Conduct site surveys, staking, and field engineering using GPS-enabled tablets and GIS mapping tools.
  • Verify contractor work meets project specifications, quality standards, and construction requirements.
  • Resolve field issues and provide technical support during construction.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utilities, and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, daily reports, and expense records.
  • Support project schedules by ensuring construction activities remain on track.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in OSP fiber construction, telecommunications, utilities, locating services, or a related industry.
  • Experience performing construction inspections, site surveys, staking, or field engineering on FTTH, middle-mile, long-haul, or other fiber optic infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, GIS mapping tools, or GPS-based field data collection.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, walk several miles daily, and travel approximately 95% of the time.
Expectations
  • Travel approximately 95% of the time throughout Iowa and Minnesota. Will be using own vehicle (Mileage and expenses paid)
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain conditions.
  • Produce accurate documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company and client safety procedures.

  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Online or similar GIS mapping platforms.
  • Experience using tablets, GPS equipment, smartphones, and other mobile field technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk several miles daily over uneven terrain.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical school or vocational training in telecommunications, engineering technology, GIS, surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Knowledge of Rural Utilities Service (RUS) construction units and standards.
  • Previous Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment experience.
  • Experience working with broadband engineering or construction contractors.
