Department Overview

The CHH Perianesthesia Unit is a department within Perioperative Services within the Nursing Division. There are 13 operating rooms within the surgical department, as well as a GI Unit and minor procedure room. The daily average volume of patient procedures performed ranges between 30-60 patients, Monday through Friday. The mission of the department is to provide exemplary, cost-effective care to the surgical patient, and to serve as a role model for surgical patient care in the Pacific Northwest. This position requires working/floating within the perioperative services units.

Function/Duties of Position

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Role]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. The Clinical RN exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture, a Reporting Culture, a Learning Culture, and an Engaged Informed Culture.

This position plays a vital role in assuming primary responsibility for and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care to patients in the Ambulatory Recovery, Pre-operation and Post-operation areas of Oregon Health & Sciences University, Ambulatory Surgery Department at the Center for Health and Healing and Multnomah Pavilion. The Perioperative Services use a primary practice model of care, Primary practice, phase I and II recovery. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses patient's needs, develops the plan of care, implements and evaluates nursing care, provides education and consultation of staff, students, patients and the community.

Required Qualifications
  • BSN, current unencumbered OSBN, BLS and ACLS requires for all external candidates.
  • ASN or BSN, current OSBN, BLS and ACLS required for all internal candidates.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience as an RN in a critical care setting (ER, ICU, CCU or PACU) required.
  • Constant exposure to usual hospital environment conditions.
  • Possible exposure to body substances.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand push and walk throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CCRN, CPAN, CAPN certifications preferred.
  • Current RN experience in an ambulatory procedure Pre-op and Phase I and II recovery preferred.
Additional Details

Orientation period for this position is approximately 12 weeks, depending on previous experience.
