This role is with FDM Group, a globally respected technology consultancy, and is focused on building and modernising a next-generation ACH payments platform for a large enterprise client in the financial sector. The position is offered on a long-term, full-time W2 engagement with an initial project duration of 18 months and strong potential for extension. While this particular role is designed for candidates who already have the right to work in the United States, it is ideal for internationally trained professionals who are already in the US and seeking a high-impact, career-defining enterprise engineering role. About the Role You will join a high-performing engineering team responsible for rewriting and modernising mission-critical payment systems. The role is highly hands-on and requires deep expertise in Java and enterprise backend systems. You will contribute directly to the architecture, development, and delivery of scalable, high-availability services that power ACH payment workflows. Working in a hybrid model (three days per week onsite), you will collaborate closely with product owners, architects, internal engineers, and external vendor teams to ensure the platform meets strict performance, security, and regulatory requirements typical of large financial institutions. Responsibilities Lead hands-on development of Java-based backend services supporting ACH payment workflows Contribute to the modernisation and rewrite of critical payment systems and core platforms Collaborate with architects, product owners, and engineers to design and deliver scalable solutions Participate in technical design sessions, code reviews, and agile delivery ceremonies Work alongside vendor development teams to ensure cohesive integration and delivery quality Diagnose production issues, optimise performance, and improve system stability and reliability Apply engineering best practices, security standards, and compliance requirements throughout the SDLC Requirements 5–10+ years of professional, hands-on Java backend development experience Strong experience building high-performance, distributed, enterprise-grade systems Solid understanding of microservices, APIs, Spring Boot, messaging systems, and REST integrations Proven ability to quickly understand existing systems and contribute effectively in complex environments Experience in enterprise payment systems or financial platforms (ACH strongly preferred) Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a hybrid model in Charlotte, North Carolina This role offers a rare opportunity to work at the heart of a large-scale financial systems modernisation program with a globally recognised consultancy.
