The Surgical Services Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment used in the operating room and other clinical areas. This role supports the surgical team by ensuring all instruments are properly processed and available for procedures. The position requires strong attention to detail, adherence to sterilization protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment. Weekend availability on a rotating schedule is mandatory.
Responsibilities:- Decontaminate, clean, and inspect surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assemble instrument sets according to surgical procedure requirements.
- Operate sterilization equipment and ensure proper sterilization of all items.
- Maintain inventory and track surgical instruments and supplies.
- Distribute sterile instruments to surgical and clinical areas as needed.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
- Collaborate with surgical staff to meet unit needs and support patient care.
- Perform routine maintenance and quality checks on sterilization equipment.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in sterile processing or related field.
- Ability to follow strict sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment.
- Willingness and ability to work rotating weekends (at least every 3rd or 4th weekend).
- Certification in sterile processing (e.g., CBSPD or IAHCSMM) is advantageous but not required.
- Experience working in an acute care hospital setting.
- Familiarity with Mediteach charting system or similar hospital documentation tools.
- Rotating weekend schedule required, which may exceed every 3rd or 4th weekend to meet unit needs.
- No on-call requirements.
- All requests for time off must be submitted at time of application and are subject to facility approval based on operational needs.
- Position does not float to sister facilities.
- Free parking provided.
- Rotating weekend shifts with schedule determined by unit staffing needs.
- Block schedule accommodations are not available.
- Guaranteed hours with allowance for one shift call-off every two weeks.
