Technical Applications Engineer | Location: Elkhart Lake, WI (On-site) Type: Full-timeAbout the RoleOur client is a manufacturer of HVAC air-side products looking for a sharp, technically fluent Applications Engineer to sit within their Inside Sales team. This role is the technical backbone of the sales operation — supporting independent reps and consulting engineers by combining real HVAC product knowledge with quotation development and proactive opportunity follow-up.On any given day you might be reviewing plans and specs, configuring a product for a specific project, helping a consulting engineer with a selection question, or following up on an open quote to understand where an opportunity stands and what it'll take to win it. The work moves fast, priorities shift, and multiple projects run at once.The split is roughly 70% quotation development / 30% technical support — though the mix shifts with the queue.What this role is not: It's not product design, R&D, CAD, or system design. It's not a quota-carrying outside sales job. You're applying an existing product line to real projects and helping reps win them.What You'll Be DoingHelp Reps Win ProjectsServe as a trusted technical resource for independent sales reps across North AmericaAssist with product selection, application questions, and project-specific requirementsRecommend product configurations and alternative solutions that align with project goalsBuild strong rep relationships through responsiveness and genuine product knowledgeSupport Consulting EngineersAnswer product-related technical questions from consulting engineersAssist with product selection and application guidanceProvide information that supports clean specification development and proper product applicationDevelop Quotations and SolutionsReview plans, specifications, schedules, and project documentationPrepare accurate, timely quotations for HVAC air-side productsConfigure products to meet project requirements, coordinating with internal teams to ensure quotes reflect what can actually be builtManage a high volume of active quotations and opportunities simultaneouslyManage Opportunities ProactivelyFollow up on significant quotes and open opportunitiesAsk probing questions about project status, competitive position, and decision driversLook for ways to improve win rates on active bidsKeep project, customer, and opportunity data current in HubSpot and NetSuiteSolve Technical ProblemsInterpret plans, specifications, and application requirementsResolve product application and configuration questionsPartner with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Sales on complex challengesTools You'll Work WithNetSuite — order and quote managementHubSpot — CRM and outreachSuiteCommerce — self-serve quoting platform for simpler rep requestsAgentic AI tools for product recommendations and quoting opportunity identificationWhat You BringStrong mechanical aptitude and ability to read plans, specs, and schedulesAbility to interpret technical documentation and translate it into product solutionsExcellent written and verbal communicationStrong attention to detail and sound judgmentOrganizational ability to manage many projects, quotes, and deadlines simultaneouslyCustomer-focused mindset with a genuine desire to help reps and engineers succeedComfort with CRM, ERP, and business softwareBackgrounds that tend to fit well:HVAC applications support or applications engineering at a rep firm or manufacturerHVAC inside sales, quotations, or technical sales supportEstimating and project engineering on the mechanical contracting sideExperience supporting independent reps and consulting engineers is a strong plusRequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred — relevant HVAC applications, technical sales support, quotation, or industry experience will be strongly considered in lieu of a degree3+ years in the HVAC industry as an engineer or sales rep preferredExtensive understanding of mechanical processes and cost estimatingBenefitsHealth, dental, and vision insuranceHealth savings account (HSA)401(k) with matchingLife insurancePaid time offTuition reimbursementReferral programLorie Gironda Senior Recruiting Lead | TalentFish️ | | /in/loriegirondaStay ahead of the market — follow my weekly newsletter for new job opportunities, hiring trends, and insights from 20+ years in staffing: LGirondaJobs on LinkedIn
