Position Description:
The New Jersey Pinelands Commission is an independent state agency whose mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Pinelands National Reserve, and to encourage compatible economic and other human activities consistent with that purpose. The
Commission implements a comprehensive plan that guides land use, development, and natural resource protection programs in the 938,000-acre Pinelands Area of southern New Jersey.
The Commissions Land Use Programs Office is seeking an organized and friendly candidate with good verbal and written communication skills to facilitate numerous programs in our Land Use Programs Office.
The Technical Planning Assistant takes accurate minutes and coordinates meeting correspondence, maintains permanent records, drafts non-substantial letters and emails related to meetings, hearings, and municipal land use ordinances, as well as a variety of other duties. The Assistant develops an understanding of the Pinelands Commission structure, regulations, and policies to successfully support programs in the
Land Use Programs Office.
Skills and Qualifications
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite tools and demonstrate an ability to learn internal software systems used by the Commission staff. Must be organized and work well independently and as a team member. Good verbal and written communication skills are important.
Position requires routine inter-agency, intra-office, and client interaction and engagement, and excellent attention to detail. The ability to listen and create high quality written records (minutes) of meeting discussions and presentations, to anticipate and meet important deadlines, and to learn Commission procedures is very important.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience: Two years of related experience is required. An Associates degree is required. A Bachelors degree may be substituted for one year of experience. Experience in public administration, land use planning, or land preservation will be considered. The cover letter and resume should show a clear connection of education and experience to the required skills and qualifications.
Residency: The New Jersey First Act (P.L. 2011, c. 70) requires all new employees to reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under law. If you do not reside in New Jersey, within one year of hire, you must either establish residency in the State of New Jersey or successfully receive an exemption from the Employee Residency Review Committee.
