This vacancy is located in the New Orleans Child Welfare Office.


This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months.

You MUST include all relevant education and experience on your official State application.

The duties that you describe in the Work Experience section of your application will be reviewed by State Civil Service as part of the process in determining if you meet the minimum qualifications for this job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license.

NOTE:
The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide basic child welfare support services to clients and potential clients of the agency by assisting them in gaining access to agency services.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Direct from Child Welfare Supervisor or any other higher level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Children and Family Services.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Child Welfare Specialist Trainee by the absence of training to provide professional social services duties.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE.PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.
Assists professional staff in providing child welfare services to clients by completing any of the following:
Instructs clients in the practical application of improved standards of housekeeping, shopping, personal hygiene, medical and childcare and other necessary home management skills.
Transports clients sometimes infected with highly transmittable diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, HIV, AIDS, etc. to clinics, doctors' offices, or other places where services are available.
Lifts or assists clients into the transit with their personal belongings and any medically needed equipment such as a wheel chair, an oxygen tank, a walker, etc.
Observes and reports clients' behavior to professional staff to aid in the assessment and treatment plan of the case.
May monitor family visitation between caretaker and child(ren) with parents. Prepares narrative reports and maintains visitation log as required.
Schedules and arranges client transportation for follow-up visits.
Effectively communicates with clients to defuse potentially dangerous situations such as physical/verbal confrontations between clients and/or towards agency staff.
Completes various forms and reports.
Secures preliminary social and health history information for use by professional social services staff in evaluating client needs.
May be responsible for state vehicle maintenance and documentation of such.
