Games Room Program Assistant and Van Drive

Position Summary:

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as responsible, caring, and productive citizens. We provide a safe place, caring mentors, and a full range of expanded learning opportunities for children and teens ages 6-18.

The Games Room Assistant will contribute to the development of a fun, safe and positive community by maintaining routines, procedures, and behavior expectations. They will supervise members and evaluate activities provided within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character, and Citizenship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Games Room Program Assistant

Support the implementation of a daily program schedule for Club members that supports youth development outcomes.

Communicate and collaborate with Clubhouse colleagues regarding members interests and behaviors.

Assist with daily meal services.

Ensure supplies and equipment are clean and in good working conditions.

Van Driver

Drive a 12-passenger van and transport youth and teens around the Portland Area.

Perform daily pre and post route safety inspections on assigned vehicle. Report any issues to Unit Director.

Keep the vehicle free from damage, in acceptable condition, and maintain a consistently clean interior.

Keep written records of trips, mileage, and records of passenger counts.

Documents incidents and accidents with written reports when necessary.

Follow all the rules of the road.

Required Qualifications :

Hold a valid driver's license and possess an excellent driving record.

Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

Ability to work after school and evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-2 years working at a Boys & Girls Club, YMCA or similar related youth organization.

Behavioral management experience

Bi-lingual in Portuguese, Lingala, French or Somali

Non-profit experience

Skills and Abilities:

Energetic with a strong desire to mentor elementary and middle school aged members.

Ability to adapt to their developmental needs.

Demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving skills.

Ability to adapt to changes, while multi-tasking

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability.

Flexible and willing to contribute, when necessary, on projects outside of own department

Compensation and benefits:

Part Time, $16.50 per hour

Monday-Friday 2:30p-6:30p (20 hrs during school year) 12:30p-5:30p (25hrs during summer)

Eligible for Maine Earned Paid Leave up to 40 hours annually

Work Environment including physical requirements:

  • Educational and social recreation setting.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, reach, grab, bend, push or pull up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time of at least 4 hours per day.

Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and to observe and communicate with members.

  • Ability to drive 12-person passenger van.
