About the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD):


The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in nursery school through high school. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60% of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.


Salary:


This position traditionally starts at $27.29 per hour. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.


Role Overview:


The Interpreter provides ASL interpretive service for students, staff, and guests during normal business hours and occasional after-hours events. You may interpret in classrooms, parent meetings, business meetings, and other functions as needed.


This is an intermittent position. Your hours will vary as need varies.


This position requires that you are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).


A Day in the Life:


The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Provide interpreting services during and after normal business hours as needed.
  • Participate in all meetings requiring an interpreter.
  • Educate the facility and interested parties on effective and appropriate interpreter use.
  • Provide programs/workshops to educate students and staff about interpreters.
  • Communicate with the supervisor regarding any issues impacting the provision of interpreting services within the facility.

What You'll Need for Success:


You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Through knowledge of agency-specific Interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to adhere to the standard Interpreting Code of Ethics such as those set by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and the Indiana Interpreter Certification Program (IICP).
  • Thorough knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Ability to interpret from ASL to spoken English and from spoken English to ASL effectively.


You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) issued national certification.
  • Maintain certifications by attending workshops, seminars and/or training.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:


This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
