Position Overview
The Program Coordinator will assist with the ARISE project, which stands for Adaptive and Resilient Infrastructures driven by Social Equity. It is a statewide initiative involving universities, colleges, and communities across Kansas, with research to advance water, energy, and transportation systems. The overarching goal of this project is to help Kansans rebound faster and suffer less from large-scale disasters. Researchers and community members work together on this project to support vulnerable communities in the Kansas City metropolitan area and in Western Kansas. ARISE also spearheads several educational initiatives to support workforce development, including a 10-week summer program to provide undergraduate students authentic research experiences at Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and Wichita State University.
The Program Coordinator will assist with planning and organizing two main aspects of the ARISE project: i) community engagement, and ii) the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program.
The position is an in-person position on the KU Lawrence campus with the ability to work remotely based on the applicants interest.
This position is a 2.5 year limited term appointment.

Job Description
50% time will be spent supporting the Community engagement efforts, including
- Schedule and assist with organizing meetings for ARISE researchers to meet with community partners.
- Track community engagement efforts and relevant data, assist with updating community partners, and help identify new community partners.
- Assist with preparing for meetings with community partners by helping to create and compile presentations and other support materials.
- Assist with development of outreach and community engagement materials (e.g. flyers, fact sheets, web page development, etc.).
- Assist with recruitment of undergraduates to participate in the REU program by creating and disseminating promotional materials, posting information online, overseeing in-person recruitment events, tracking applications, and responding to inquiries.
- Help organize events for the REU program, including training sessions, seminar speakers, team building events, and other related activities.
- Assist with arranging housing, payment, and other administrative tasks for the REU program.
- Assist with data collection for the REU, keeping detailed records of activities for reports.
- Assist with creating and compiling materials for the REU, including presentations, promotional content, educational resources, and other information that supports the program.
Position Requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel in-state to universities and colleges for ARISE programmatic activities.
- Ability and willingness to work a few nights and weekends during the summer for the REU.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or Bachelor's degree plus three years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with educational, outreach or community initiatives.
- Ability and willingness to work with this project for a minimum three years (2023 to 2026)
- Interest in promoting community and campus partnerships.
- Interest in supporting educational opportunities for undergraduate students.
